David O’Brien

1922-2018

Retired Chief Petty Officer, David John O’Brien Jr., 95, Olathe, Kansas, sailed into Heaven on February 6, 2018. Dave was born June 1, 1922 in St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin to David John and Ethel Mona (Monte) O’Brien.

Dave enlisted in the United States Navy in 1941 and served his country for 23 years. He was a Veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was aboard the Midway, Bon Homme Richard and the second Yorktown during his worldwide Navy career.

Robbie Meadows

1933-2017
Nelma Keepsie (Robinson) Meadows passed peacefully in her Olathe home November 11, 2017. The daughter of Raymond Carles Robinson and Clara Julia Britana (Bell) Robinson she was born November 12, 1933 in Oilton Oklahoma. Her early childhood was spent in Oklahoma and high school years were in Mission, Kansas where she graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1951.

Robbie, as she was known as by friends and family in Kansas, owned and operated Olathe Office Supply with her husband Jerry Meadows for many years finally retiring from United Office Products. Socially she was the pied piper of the Red Hat Ladies, enjoyed playing any kind of card game and puzzles a winter favorite. Continue reading

Olathe news briefs for the week of May 1

City Council
The Olathe City Council will meet Tuesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall for a regular session. Regular sessions are broadcast live on OGN (Comcast channel 7, AT&T channel 99 and on the City’s website).

 

Farmers’ Markets open Saturday, May 6         

The Olathe Farmers’ Markets, located at Black Bob Park (14500 151st St.) and Stagecoach Park (1205 E Kansas City Rd.) open for the 2017 season on Saturday, May 6. The markets open at 7:30 a.m. and run until sold out. Wednesday market returns on May 10. Learn more about the 2017 vendors online.
