City Council                                                          

The Olathe City Council will meet Tuesday, Nov.1, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall for a regular session. Olathe selected to join national What Works Cities initiative

Olathe has been selected as one of 16 new cities to participate in Bloomberg Philanthropies’ What Works Cities initiative.

Launched in April 2015, What Works Cities has developed a growing network of local municipal leaders, leading global experts and world-class practitioners who at no cost to cities, are sharing best practices for data and evidence-based governance to engage citizens, make government more effective and improve people’s lives.

What Works Cities will assist Olathe with advancing the following objectives:

Largest MNU capital campaign revealed

The most comprehensive capital campaign at MidAmerica Nazarene University recently was unveiled at the university’s 50^th Anniversary Grand Celebration Dinner. Bright Futures: the campaign for MNU is a three-priority, multi-year campaign for $61 million.

Over the next five years, funds raised in the campaign will be designated for three priorities at MNU:

1.    Academic Programs:     $6,989,043
2.    Capital Projects:             $28,109,262
3.    University Support:        $26,214,328

Election 2016 – More Light, Less Noise, Please

This week, I read a comment by one of my favorite bloggers, comparing a quote in the movie, “Princess Bride” to our choice of Presidential candidates.

If you are not familiar with the movie, Princess Buttercup is in love with Westley. However, she has been kidnapped by Prince Humperdink who intends to force her into marrying him instead. Princess Buttercup tells the Prince she plans to commit suicide overnight rather than marrying him the next day.

Humperdink replies, “Please consider marrying me… as an alternative to suicide.”
