Great Mall to close this year

From WDAF-TV

On Monday, Feb. 16, The Great Mall of the Great Plains, 20700 West 151st Street, announced plans to close the property after about 18 years.

In the announcement, management says: “The decision to close was difficult, but one that was guided by very compelling economic realities. The development began to face struggles soon after it opened in 1997, and has been unable to recover in the intervening years due to a variety of factors, including the economic downturn and changes in customers’ shopping habits.”

Results from recent retail studies conducted by Jeff Green Partners indicate that currently in 2015, this site can comfortably support only a fraction of the  786,000 square feet of retail space at the mall.
