Olathe news briefs for the week of Sept. 3

City Council
The Olathe City Council will next meet Tuesday, September 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall for a regular session. Regular sessions are broadcast live on OGN (Comcast channel 7, AT&T channel 99 and on the City’s website). Olathe Receives Award for Best Tasting Water in Kansas
The City of Olathe is this year’s winner of the Kansas Water Taste Test competition. The City was recognized by the Kansas Water Environment Association (KWEA) and Kansas Section of the American Water Works Association (KsAWWA) at last week’s joint conference in Wichita for having the best-tasting water in Kansas. That last time the City received this particular award was 2008. Continue reading

The trouble with these troubled times

These must be troubled times. At least that’s what everyone keeps telling me.

Hardly a politician or preacher opens his or her mouth without prefacing that he is opening it, “In these troubled times . . .” Or, “In these changing times. . .”

What comes next is some course of action that you and I should abide, owing to these troubled times. Or maybe it’s the changing times. I always get those two confused.

There also are “uncertain” times, but I will deal with those later. I have my hands full with trouble and change. Continue reading
