Olathe PD releases information on Kaylie Bailey

On Friday May 3, the Olathe Police Department took a missing person report on Kaylie K. Bailey, age 21, and her 1-year-old daughter Lana L. Bailey.

It was reported that Kaylie was last seen on Wednesday May 1, and hadn’t shown-up for work.

On the day of the report, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department was provided an address as a possible destination for Kaylie.

This case remains under investigation by the Olathe Police Department. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at 785-229-1200, the Olathe Police Department at 913-971- 6950 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-8477.

Murder suspect dies in county jail

Johnson County Inmate John Hodges was booked into the Johnson County New Century Adult Detention Center on Sept. 19, 2012 on charges of Murder and Identity Theft stemming from an incident which occurred earlier that month in Overland Park.

At about noon on Monday, May 6, deputies discovered an unresponsive Hodges in his cell.  Jail medical staff and Med-Act conducted life saving measures however, Hodges succumbed to injuries.

Hodges death is being investigated as a suicide at this time however the investigation into his death is on-going.

 

Northwest senior earns top honor

Cassie Wang, a senior at Olathe Northwest High School, was named as one of America’s top 10 youth volunteers of the year by the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Monday in Washington, D.C.As a national honoree, Wang will receive an additional $5,000 award, an engraved gold medallion and a crystal trophy for Olathe Northwest High School. She will also be able to choose a nonprofit charitable organization to receive a $5,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation. Wang was picked as the high school state winner in February. As a State Honoree, Wang received $1,000, an engraved silver medallion and an all- expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. this month for four days of national recognition.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program is the United States’ largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer community service. The program was created in 1995 by Prudential in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals to honor middle level and high school students for outstanding service to others at the local, state, and national level.

Wang began the nonprofit Youth Hope Fund, more than a year ago. It has helped provide scholarships to children in China and has helped others getting back on their feet after the devastating tornado in Joplin. In one year, the organization raised around $8,000.

Wang plans to attend Harvard University in the fall.
