Wealth: Where do you fit in? You might be surprised!

In the last presidential election, the country heard a lot about the distribution of wealth in this country and a lot about the top 1 percent.

This is a YouTube video that was sent to me by friend Brad Schuttler that breaks down the income inequality in America. Based on data from a 2011 Mother Jones post called “It’s the Inequality, Stupid”, the video focuses on the difference between the ideal disparity that Americans would like to see and the reality of the actual disparity.

The gap is a lot larger than many informed Americans realize.

School bond issue will solve some critical issues, including safety

There are six critical and undeniable issues Olathe School Board president Amy Martin knows are facing students, staff and patrons of the Olathe Public Schools:

1. Olathe is going to need a fifth high school;

2. Olathe is going to need a 36th elementary school;

3. Olathe schools need to be made safer;

4. Outdated technology equipment need to be replaced and updated;

5. Many of Olathe’s schools are old and need to be updated; and

6. To accomplish those things, and more, the Olathe Public Schools will need to get the permission of patrons in the form of a $244.8 million bond issue on June 11.

Culinary teams win state

Culinary Arts Program students made a clean sweep at this past weekend’s ProStart Kansas Invitational. The students in the culinary and management teams will go on to represent the district at the ProStart National Invitational April 19-21 in Baltimore.

The program is housed at Olathe North High School.

I-35 lane closure for bridge work near Gardner

The Kansas Department of Transportation has issued an alert for all lanes of southbound I-35 from 175th Street to K-33. They will be closed for bridge construction work beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 and reopening to unrestricted traffic at 5 a.m. on Friday, March 29, weather permitting.

These lane closures have been rescheduled due to last weekend’s winter storm impacts.

Southbound I-35 will be completely closed for the setting of girders on the new Homestead Lane Bridge.

Advance message boards will alert traffic to the roadway closure. A marked detour will be provided.

Southbound I-35 traffic will exit at U.S. 56/175th Street and go westbound on U.S. 56 to southbound K-33 and then take K-33 through Wellsville back to southbound I-35.

Drivers should expect delays and must use alternate routes during the roadway closure.
