Forget the pipeline; help the people

Government employees everywhere are smiling: There will not be a government shutdown — at least not this Christmas. Congress Friday, Dec. 16, passed a budget amendment worth more than $1 trillion.

Ho-ho-ho!

But when it comes to extending the payroll tax cut and extending the unemployment benefits, well, so far, Congress may be the Grinch that steals Christmas.
